Superhero Tax Breaks?

David's Journal 3 Comments

lexluthor.jpgEmpire Magazine did an article about the top 10 wealthiest superhero characters… Poor Peter Parker (Spider-Man) was at the bottom of the list. He’s a freelance photographer for a newspaper, after all. Trying to make rent in New York City of all places. Tony Stark (Iron Man) made the #1 spot as the wealthiest hero, followed closely behind by Bruce Wayne (The Batman).

But as fascinating as all this is for all of you, it was actually someone’s comment (to the article) that really caught my attention. This comic book fan felt it necessary to adjust for, of all things, tax breaks. Or rather, the hero’s inability to claim them. “Batman can’t claim tax breaks on the batmobile,” he noted, and “Iron Man can’t claim the $7 billion for his suits as a business expense.”

Then it got me thinking.

What if a superhero did try to claim their special suits, equipment, and vehicles as tax deductions?

Risks Not Taken

I’ve heard this before. It’s usually the things we didn’t do that we most often regret in life. I’ve heard this from young people, I’ve heard it from old people. I’ve heard it from rich and successful people, I’ve heard it from the poor and lonely… And everybody in between.

We’re always afraid of doing the wrong thing, and later regretting it. Always worrying about “what if” and what could go wrong. And, I guess, sometimes the worst does happen, and sometimes we do end up regretting the choices we’ve made, the actions we’ve taken.

To My Friend in Wyoming

David's Journal No Comments

I was out taking a walk tonight. I stopped, laid down on the sidewalk (not as uncomfortable as it sounds), and looked up at the stars in the sky.

I had just been talking on the phone with my friend in Wyoming, of all places. You never know where you’re going to make a good friend. She’s going through some really challenging times right now. She mentioned, in passing, some far worse and even more difficult times she’d already survived in the past.

She’s a good person, a beautiful soul.

I wondered, why do good people suffer through so much — through so much bad stuff that they clearly don’t deserve. My poor friend… struggling financially, emotionally, in her intimate relationship… she’s so strong. And she deserves so much better. So much better.

I Feel Sexy & I Feel Happy

David's Journal 2 Comments

Writing is therapeutic for me, so a lot of times when I’m stressed or feeling down, I like write out my thoughts and feelings.  Writing also helps me sort out my problems and/or motivate myself into facing my greatest fears and biggest life challenges.

But there are times, like today, when I’m doing really good and just don’t feel the need to write about it.

Actually, I was barely home today.  I went up to Del Mar and Solana Beach, and then further up the coast to Encinitas.  All beautiful coastal towns in San Diego County.  Took lots of pictures.  You can see them in my MySpace photo album.

My Congruency Check

David's Journal 7 Comments

This is more personal than anything else. I’m trying to uncover my congruencies and incongruencies in life. Highly successful and spiritual people say that when we’re congruent, we feel better and achieve our desires much more easily. I believe them. But either way, I think it’s an important exercise to “know thyself” and become conscience of what we think, feel, say, and do — and whether or not they all agree with each other. :)
