Google Recommends You Go In For The Kiss

David's Journal No Comments

From the xkcd webcomic.
I actually tested this.  As of 8/31/08:

I should have kissed her: 25,305 results
I should have kissed him: 3,377 results

Total SHOULD KISS: 28,682

I shouldn’t have kissed her: 2,921 results
I shouldn’t have kissed him: 1,443 results

Total SHOULD NOT KISS: 4,364

Therefore, Google clearly prefers and recommends kissing over not kissing, more than 6 times over.

So next time you’re thinking of going for it, but not sure what to do, just remember this friendly little statistic. :)

You’re far more likely to later say “I should’ve” than “I shouldn’t have.”

Live abundantly,
David Michaels

Fire Box Traps Pranksters

David's Journal No Comments

Now there’s a great idea!  Deter prank fire alarms by trapping anyone who sends the signal.

But wait … what if it’s a real fire?  To save lives, you’d be risking your own!  While you’re standing there waiting for a policeman or fireman with a key, the fire could be getting closer and closer and … yikes.

Clearly, they didn’t think this through.

But, I guess it just goes to show you, times don’t really change.  People back then were tempted to pull false fire alarms just like they do today.

Lost Opportunities

David's Journal 2 Comments

As I get ready to head to Florida and begin the next phase of my journey and life adventure, I find myself feeling a little sad about leaving.  San Diego really is beautiful.  The energy here is great.  The people are real.  The mountains and ocean … gorgeous.

My Soul Type Quiz Results

David's Journal No Comments

I ranked really high on:

1. Spiritualist

What unites Spiritualists is a deeply held belief in a world beyond this one. You will have a desire to express your spirituality in some way, and may be drawn to religion or other spiritual practices. Many Spiritualists are highly intuitive, which is why you may have had psychic experiences in the past and why you will tend to use your sixth sense when it comes to decision-making.

You have a great deal of compassion, and may feel a strong need to create a better world, or to help people make the best of their lives. Charities and nonprofits are places where you and other Spiritualists can express your soul’s desire to help others. Whatever work you choose, you must feel you have a higher purpose. It is not enough for a Spiritualist type to simply pick up a check at the end of the week. There has to be a feeling that someone has benefited from your efforts. That’s why many doctors and healers are Spiritualists.

Whether you know it or not, you frequently inspire others through your behavior. By expressing Spiritualist values such as compassion, fairness, honesty and altruism, you encourage others to live by these values—especially younger Spiritualists who will wish to emulate you.

Gone

David's Journal 1 Comment

Someone left an interesting comment to my “Hawaii Called” blog.  They encouraged me to go back and see my family first (which I was already planning on doing).  Back in 1999, their son visited them just before going to Hawaii.  They’re so glad he did.  Because one day he went out on a hike … and never returned.

We never know which day will be our last.  Harder still, we never know which day will be the last for a loved one, either.

I sensed that now was a good time to see my family and friends in Florida.  I sensed that if I went straight to Hawaii first, there really wouldn’t be an opportunity to visit with them again.  Or at least not for a long, long time.  I don’t know why.  Like I said in that earlier post, it could just be a matter of rising travel costs or busy, mis-matched schedules.  But it could also be something else.  Both my parents are in good health right now.  But sometimes death comes suddenly and unexpectedly.  And until that person wrote that comment on my blog, it hadn’t occurred to me, maybe I’m the one who’s not coming back.

I’m not immortal.  I’m not invincible.

Quotes by Warren Buffett

Quotes by Warren Buffett

.

In my adult business life I have never had to make a choice of trading between professional and personal. I tap-dance to work, and when I get there it’s tremendous fun.

.

I have simple pleasures. I play bridge online for 12 hours a week. Bill and I play, he’s “chalengr” and I’m “tbone”.

.

I just naturally want to do things that make sense. In my personal life too, I don’t care what other rich people are doing. I don’t want a 405 foot boat just because someone else has a 400 foot boat.

.

I want to be able to explain my mistakes. This means I do only the things I completely understand.

More Hawaii Reminders, and Shaping-Up Plans

David's Journal No Comments

Just some more examples…

1. At work, a customer comes in, wearing one of those sleeveless t-shirts.  On it is written in beautiful letters: “Kauai.”  I ask him if he’s been there.  “Of course!” he says, he’s lived on all the islands, but Maui is definitely the best and his favorite, he tells me.
