I love Pandora.  You enter some of your favorite songs and artists, and it automatically pulls up (and plays for you) other songs and artists you should like, based on your selections.  You vote on each song (thumbs up or thumbs down) to help it fine-tune to your personal music tastes.

Today a new song came up in my player.  It was on a playlist that had a lot of pop/techno/electronica type music.  But this thing had a distinctly more “rock” feel to it.

So I clicked the link, “Why was this song selected?”

Here’s what Pandora said:

What the heck is “mild rhythmic syncopation”?  Do they actually expect laymen, non-music professionals to actually make sense of this?  “Intricate melodic phrasing” … it sounds cool, but what the heck is it?

Thanks, Pandora, that really clarifies everything.

I was out for a walk last night, before going to bed.  I realized this could’ve been my last night in California for a while.  I don’t know how soon I’ll be back.  Depending on packing progress and energy level, I might start my cross-country road trip back to Florida later tonight instead of first thing tomorrow.

The air was cool.  The moon was out with a few stars that shined through the light pollution.  Around me are apartment buildings, cars, parking lots…  I’m just walking.  Wandering.  Stretching my legs and getting some fresh air before going to sleep.

So many thoughts.  So many memories.
