Day Better Spent
Man, I so don’t feel like coming into work today.
I’m so tired/sleepy. I need more sleep. But I have to be responsible and reliable.
Work has been so slow lately. I probably won’t make much money today anyway. But just in case, and either way, I need to be earning as much as I can.
Over the weekend, I came up with a few ideas of a part-time business I can start on the side, requiring no up-front money, that I can start selling and making some extra income almost right away. I ran the idea past a couple close friends, and they loved it. It’s right up my alley. It’s very valuable and wanted by many others. It’d be a step towards making the world a better place. It comes from my heart, and will help both me and others grow.
I’d rather stay at home, catch up on some sleep, and spend the rest of my day building my business.
Long-term, that’s the smarter thing to do.
Short-term, however, I have immediate bills that need to be paid. And an employer who’s expecting me and relying on me to be, well, reliable.
So I’m coming into work. Even though I really, really don’t feel like it.
It’s not that I don’t want to work, or that I’m burnt out or anything — today, honestly, it’s just that I feel my time could be better spent.
I once had a very successful rich man (self-made) tell me, “Most people are too busy working to make any money.”
I understand what he means.
I’ll still grow my business … it’ll just happen slower, because I’ll only have evenings and weekends to work on it. It’ll happen slower, because I’ll come home tired after a long day of driving (250 miles per day on average), working around 9 hours with maybe or maybe not a break.
But I’ll still do it, I’ll still make it happen.
Because I have to.
I have to share my heart. I have to find a way to be self-employed. I have to grow. I have to improve my financial situation.
Perhaps working harder now will pay off later, and one day I won’t have to work at all — I’ll work, only because and when I want to, doing only what I want to, because I had the vision, commitment, and determination to do what was necessary first.
Whatever your dream, whatever your vision for your life — good luck, keep going, find a way to make it happen even though other necessities may take up a lot of your time and energy too.
With love, your friend,
David Michaels
