To My Friend in Wyoming

8:57 pm David's Journal

I was out taking a walk tonight. I stopped, laid down on the sidewalk (not as uncomfortable as it sounds), and looked up at the stars in the sky.

I had just been talking on the phone with my friend in Wyoming, of all places. You never know where you’re going to make a good friend. She’s going through some really challenging times right now. She mentioned, in passing, some far worse and even more difficult times she’d already survived in the past.

She’s a good person, a beautiful soul.

I wondered, why do good people suffer through so much — through so much bad stuff that they clearly don’t deserve. My poor friend… struggling financially, emotionally, in her intimate relationship… she’s so strong. And she deserves so much better. So much better.

She’s kind, loving, a good friend, a kind soul. She loves others, without condition, openly, honestly, expecting nothing in return.

She deserves so much better than what she’s living now.

And me? How can I help her, all the way from San Diego, with anything more than a listening ear and caring heart? She’s my friend. All I can be is a friend, in voice, over the phone, at the few times when we’re both free and able to talk for a minute or two.

I wished we could’ve gone out walking together. Sometimes just a change a view helps. Sometimes just being with a friend, in person, helps too.

So I did the next best thing. I talked to her on the phone, and I went outside walking alone.

It helped. She felt better. Maybe that’s all she needed tonight.

I know, in the past, sometimes all I needed was a listening, caring friend on the other end of the phone. Sometimes we just need to know somebody cares.

Well, my friend, I care. As I know your other friends do too. I wish you got what you deserved — much better — than what you’re getting now.

*hugs*

You’re on the right track. Don’t give up. Don’t lose hope.

I know you’re much stronger than that.

Still, take time to rest too. Even the strong need to rest now and again.

Namaste, with love, your friend,
David Michael
